Beverly Hills Cop III (1994)

Beverly Hills Cop III

Go ahead, admit it. You’d like to wear one just to see what it is like. No? OK, I will. I’d love to try on of those fuzzy cartoon animal suits you see in theme parks. Okey-Dokey, a blue elephant, is the choice of Axel Foley (Eddie Murphy) as he goes after the bad guys. But then the scene of the four other animals, playing poker and chewing stogies makes me uneasy.

Pulp Fiction (1994)

Pulp Fiction

Geez, Quentin Tarantino can spin quite a yarn. And he makes it look effortless. Like the scene where Vincent Vega (John Travolta) and Mia Wallace (Uma Thurman) return to the Wallace house after winning a twist contest. Mia finds Vincent’s stash of heroin in the pocket of his coat while Vincent is in the bathroom convincing himself not to hit on the wife of his boss. Thinking it cocaine, she snorts it and overdoses. Vincent gets help from Lance (Eric Stolz) in the form of an adrenaline shot to the heart.

Muriel’s Wedding (1994)

Muriel's Wedding

When faced with a serious medical condition, everybody wonders what caused it. Sometimes the reason is obvious, sometime it isn’t and we grab at straws in order to explain how this could of happened. Rhonda Epinstalk (Rachel Griffiths) is one of these people. She has been diagnosed with a cancerous spinal tumour which is pressing on the nerves and resulting in her legs being paralysed. Stargate (1994)

Stargate

It is hard to convince your colleagues that what conventional wisdom and history has thought to be true isn’t the case. Galileo Galilei and Nicolaus Copernicus were punished for their findings. The same has happened to archaeologist Dr. Daniel Jackson (James Spader) who posits that the pyramids were not built by man, but by an extraterrestrial force. He’s hired to decipher a set of symbols found on the cover stones of an ancient ring-shaped artifact. The result unlocks the secret to interstellar travel, plus four live action TV series along with an animated one.

S.F.W. (1994)

S.F.W.

Cliff Spab (Stephen Dorff) realizes the cult of celebrity isn’t quite what he thought it to be after he becomes a national figure when he is the chattiest a bunch of people, including his girl Wendy (Reese Witherspoon), who are held hostage by gun-toting terrorists in a corner store. The result of what happened as he moves from public appearance event to event seems even more bizarre than what went on while he and the others were held captive.

Blink (1994)

Blink

I had an odd thing happen recently. I was having trouble seeing with my glasses on but I could see better without them. I thought maybe my prescription had changed so I went in for an exam to determine what was going on. It turns out that after decades of having to wear glasses, my eyes had reverted to 20/20. That’s not the case for Emma Brody (Madeline Stowe). An operation gives her back some sight but she sees distorted faces and, on occasion, delayed images of who is in her line of sight. This makes it awkward when she is witness to a murder. Her brain is taking time to process images but the killer is out looking for her.

True Lies (1994)

True Lies

I’ve always suspected a neighbour couple of being secret agents. But I’ve never found any proof. And honestly, I don’t know whether I’d want to find it for they may discover my prying. Who knows where or how I’d end up. So I keep my thoughts to myself and try to purge my paranoia. Now if my neighbours were Harry Tasker (Arnold Schwarzenegger), who is a sales representative for computer company, his wife Helen (Jamie Lee Curtis) and 14-year old daughter Dana (Eliza Dushku), I wouldn’t give them a second look. Even though Harry works for a secret US government agency that deals with nuclear terrorists and is on the trail of Salim Abu Aziz (Art Malik), the leader of a band of baddies who have their hands on ex-Soviet nuclear warheads. This, however, becomes a secondary problem for Harry who is convinced that his long-neglected wife has been carrying on an affair. Paranoia runs deep in the spy business too.

Drop Zone (1994)

Drop Zone

The new guy is always a target for fun and frolics. Sometimes the tormentors make a mistake. They pick on someone who is able to teach them a lesson in etiquette. Pete Nessip (Wesley Snipes) drops by a jumper bar and plops himself down at a vacant table. But it seems that table is the regular spot for a rowdy team who think they’ll teach him a lesson.
