Eastern Promises (2007)

Eastern Promises

There have been some actions I’ve taken that I have come to regret. The consequences of what resulted have come to cause me embarrassment, sadness, joy… But none of them have caused any physical harm to innocent people I didn’t know. Anna (Naomi Watts) comes by a Russian restaurant in London looking for the relatives of a mother who died in childbirth. She asks Semyon (Armin Mueller-Stahl) if he know her or her family. She mentions a diary and the world as she knows it changes. The Russians have brought their society to London and Anna, brought up in a London suburb as a second generation Russian emigrée, doesn’t realize the rules and customs they live by will apply to her.
